US boy kills himself with babysitter's gun

A TEENAGE babysitter has been arrested after the five-year-old Texas boy she was meant to be watching shot himself dead with her gun.

The babysitter was napping when the boy shot himself in the head with a handgun he found lying on the coffee table, Orange County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Clint Hodgkinson told KFDM TV news.
Melissa Ann Ringhardt, 19, was arrested late on Tuesday evening by police on the charge of abandoning and endangering a child.
A six-month-old child was also under her watch but was unharmed.
Ringhardt told investigators she had a gun because she was afraid of being home alone.
"If someone, somehow, puts a firearm in a place where a child is able to get that weapon, you've committed an offence," Hodgkinson said.
