Enugu holds council election today

Voters in Enugu State will today elect their choice candidates for the councillorship and chairmanship positions in the 17 local government areas of the state.
The election is the record fourth attempt to hold elections at the council level since 2007 when the Sullivan Chime administration came on board.
Incidentally, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had won in all the local government elections so far conducted in the state since then.   The party is also set to repeat the feat as its chairmanship candidates are running unopposed in the 17 local governments due to the disqualification of all opposition party candidates in the election by the State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC).
ENSIEC said it disqualified the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) from the election because they presented “fake” tax clearance certificates.
Meanwhile, the APC, which is only running for the councillorship position in Eke ward in Udi Local Council, said it would not be cowed by the massive disqualification of her candidates.
