Following the Appeal Court verdict on Wednesday reversing the removal of the former Osun State governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, as the national secretary of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the breakaway faction of the party, otherwise known as the New PDP, has stated that the days of the INEC-recognised national chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, and his National Working Committee (NWC) members are numbered.
The splinter group, through its national publicity secretary, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, in statement made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, said it welcomed the Appeal Court judgement with joy and pointed out that it was one of the anomalies it was complaining about due to lack of internal democracy in the party.
He called on the party legal adviser, Victor Kwom, to quickly set in motion the process of swearing-in Oyinlola by next Monday, November 11, same way he did for the incumbent secretary, Prof. Wale Oladapo.
The statement said, with the judgment, it hope that very soon its other court cases asking for the dissolution of the Tukur-led NWC would be given the same “serious attention” to enable its members formally take over the reins of the party and “restore it to the path of honour, justice and democratic norms” which they accused the incumbent chairman and his NWC members of bastardising.
...I’m Vindicated - Oyinlola
Meanwhile, Prince Oyinlola has reacted to the incident by hailing the verdict of the Appeal Court. He said that he had been vindicated on his stand that he was unjustly removed from office in the first instance.
Oyinlola’s reaction was contained in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on yesterday, saying that he gave glory to God that he had been vindicated by the verdict.
“I give glory to God that my stand - that I was unjustly removed - has been vindicated by the Appeal Court. The position of the law and the constitution of the PDP on this matter are very clear,” he declared.
The PDP however said that its legal team was studying the judgement to know the next line of action to take.
...Battle to oust Oyinlola shifts to S’Court
Less than a day after the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja re-instated Prince Oyinlola as the national secretary of the PDP, the battle for the soul of the party has now shifted to the Supreme Court.
The appellants, Chief Adebayo Dayo, Semiu Sodipo, and Ogun state chapter of the PDP have filed an appeal against the judgement that re-instated Olayinlola.
Respondents in the appeal are the PDP and INEC.
..Re-instate Oyinlola If He Repents - Clark
The foremost Ijaw leader Chief Edwin Clark yesterday advised the national chairman of the PDP and the party NWC to accept the re-instated Oyinlola into the party if he renounces his membership of the Abubakar Baraje faction of the party.
