The collision caused a loud explosion after the passenger bus plunged into a nearby farm. While seven passengers were burnt to death, nine others survived with fatal injuries.
LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that the incident, which occurred at about 10.30am, led to the explosion of the 18-seater Toyota Hiace with registration number YB 820 AAA. It reportedly went up in flame after the collision even as the driver of the passenger bus died instantly.
An eyewitness, Mr Joel Ebi, said the commercial bus was traveling from Warri, Delta State to Calabar, Cross River State when the crash occurred.
The second vehicle, a Siena bus with registration number BJ 292 BWR, was conveying a family of eight from Warri, Delta State to Aba, Abia state. It was gathered however that the driver of the Siena bus sustained a minor injury.
Remains of the passengers have been deposited at the morgue of the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri by officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), while survivors are receiving medical treatments in same hospital.
