LAFIA—The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, has given Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State a 24-hour ultimatum to reinstate over 5,000 sacked local government staff.
The union gave the ultimatum shortly after a peace meeting to resolve the three-year-old crisis within the association, resulting in the constitution of a care-taker-committee since 2010.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of a new executive committee in Lafia, the state capital, yesterday, the National President of NULGE, Mr Khalid Isa asked Al-Makura to release all the check-off dues belonging to the union since it had resolved its crises.
“The state governor has been giving us hope that our money is intact. Because we had problem in the union, we could not ask for our money with one voice but now that we have resolved the matter, we are giving the governor from now till Friday (today) to refund our money and reinstate all sacked local government staff,” he said.
