In line with the on-going political alignment and re-alignment in the country, former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has paid a visit to the governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as part of his consultations across the country on his next political moves.

Atiku during the visit to the governor in Benin City yesterday said the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by General Mohammadu Buhari, the interim party chairman, Bisi Akande, Bola Tinubu and other chieftains of the party had visited him and urged him to return to the party.

“I told them that I would take my time to consult nationwide with political associates and stakeholders and I have them on both sides of the divide. So the purpose of this visit is to consult,” he stated.

Atiku who noted that Governor Oshiomhole is doing well in the state said “I want to commend you for the good work you are doing in this state. Everybody who knows what is happening in this state knows the good work you have been doing and I urge you to continue the good work. I thank you very much and I wish you well”.

The former Vice President said he would also consult with his political associates and stakeholders in the South-South geopolitical zone.

Responding, Governor Oshiomhole described the former Vice President as a man with enormous capacity to listen, engage and contest, but without harbouring any bitterness.

“We were excited when I received your letter of intention to pay us a visit as a follow-up to the meeting of the leadership of my party with you at your residence in Abuja where they didn’t hide the fact that you would be a strong pillar and an asset to APC.

“I am convinced and I think every democrat will agree that in every truly liberal democratic party, you would have two broad based political parties because there are two broad ideas in the ideology that guides governance. It’s about those who believe in what is happening and are satisfied and those who don’t”.
Oshiomhole remarked that “the country is bigger than any individual and we are all stewards.

“The beauty of democracy is that the citizens will have a government they deserve at any point in time. My hope and belief is that we would in politicking recognise that it is all about Nigeria and Nigerians.”

He wished the former Vice President God’s wisdom in reaching a decision that would impact positively on the people of the country.

The governor and the former Vice President later went into a closed-door meeting.
