Ogun Police Arrest 70 Suspects, Recover 38 Bags of Hemp

The Ogun State Police Command yesterday said it has arrested 70 suspects following a raid of various black spots and criminal hideouts across the state.

The public relations officer of the command, Muyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this in Abeokuta, said the command also recovered 38 bags of Indian hemp.

According to him, two suspects, Saidu Hassan, 54, and Shehu Abubakar, 33, were nabbed with the weeds at Kara area of Ibafo, Obafemi-Owode local government area of the state about 6:30pm on Saturday.

He listed places where the raids were carried out to include Ode Remo, Ipara Remo, Sapade, Akaka, Ijebu-Ode, Odogbolu, Sagamu, Ogijo, Odeda, Agbara, Ijebu-Igbo, Ewekoro and Adigbe as well as Ibara in Abeokuta.

Adejobi explained that the raids were in furtherance of the command’s determination under the Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, to rid the state of hoodlums and reduce criminality to the barest minimum.

“The screening and/or investigation of those arrested during the raid exercises is on-going at various police formations in Ogun State.

“Those found wanting would be charged to court immediately while the duo arrested in Ibafo area with bags of Indian hemp would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation,” he added.
