Army Committed To Curbing Terrorism – NDA Commandant

The Nigerian Army on Saturday  said  that it  was  committed to   curbing terrorism and insurgency in the country.

The Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Maj. Gen. Mohammed Idris, said this in Jaji, Kaduna, at the graduation ceremony of the Counter Terrorism Course 4/13 at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry.

Idris decried the spate  of attacks  carried out   by terrorists in the country, adding that the army would fight the insurgents to restore peace and order in the country.

He said the persistent security challenges witnessed in the country necessitated the army to expose its cadets to training in counter terrorism and counter insurgency.

“We are resolved to provide the foundational training needed by the cadets to build up when they graduate as young officers.

“The nature of the national security environment we find ourselves in today is volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous.

“This calls for specialised and focused training for young officers in the art of counter terrorism,’’ he said.

According to him, the training would also enable the officers to be more focused and motivated in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Also speaking, the Commandant, Nigeria Army School of Infantry (NASI), Maj. Gen. Tukur Buratai , said 51 cadets went through 11 weeks  of  training on counter terrorism.

“The training packages included raid on enemy camps, escort of VIPs, guarding of VPs and KPs, search techniques at road blocks and check points, among others,’’ he said.
Buratai said that Quick Response Group (QRG) and Basic Counter Terrorism Course (BCTC) had also been included to the regular courses at NASI.

These, he said, was to further equip the army and other security agencies  with skills on counter terrorism and insurgency. (NAN)
