Delta Community Petitions Jonathan Over Military Invasion

Leaders and people of Okerenkoko community in Warri South-West local government area of Delta State have petitioned President Goodluck Jonathan over the invasion of the area by soldiers on   January 23, 2014.

Through the Okerenkoko National Development Forum, led by Chief Michael Johnny and their lawyer, L.O. Ayoro, the victims in the petition January 24, 2014 alleged that the soldiers were sponsored by former militant leader.

They said that the ex-militant who is supported by a key official of NIMASA is opposed to any input by leaders of the forum on the development of the area.

The lawyer said’ “We have the instruction of our client, Okerenkoko National Development Forum, to make this letter of petition to your exalted office, being of urgent national concern to prevent further breakdown of law and order in Okerenkoko community in Warri South-West local government area, Delta state.”
The petition states that on 23rd January 2014, men of the Nigerian Army were deployed to Okerenkoko community, “putting it under siege till the time of writing the petition and we hereby appeal to the president to urgently intervene and bring the ex-militant (name withheld).
