FCT chairman of the Sports Writer Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kayode Adeniyi has urged politicians and well to do individuals in the country to emulate Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon’s good gesture of sponsoring annual football competition tagged ‘Imansuangbon Football Cup’ for all secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory.

Adeniyi, who spoke in Abuja during the media parley to flagging off activities for the 6th edition of competition, said the competition has contributed to the development of football in FCT and Nigeria in general in no small measure.

He noted that the hitherto unknown football talents have, in the course of the tournament, proved that with more focus and commitment of the private sector, youths of the country can engage their leisure time in creative activities instead of crime and also bring glory to the country.

The SWAN chairman, while assuring the philanthropist of SWAN continuous partnership and support in publicing the tournament extensively to people across the globe, wants private sector and individuals Nigerians to take the gauntlet in the nation’s football and sports rebirth by meaningfully engaging the youths with the aim of rebuilding the society.

“I assure you that FCT SWAN will continue to partner with you and make known to people your contribution to sports development in FCT and Nigeria at large. If not for people like you, sports would have been in a state of moribund in FCT. Others should take cue from you and invest in sports development,” he said.

A record of 120 public and private secondary schools in the FCT will jostle for honour in the 2014 edition kicking off February 6 at the Area 10 Old Parade Ground, Abuja.
