The residents who spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday said the president’s action was in order.
Mr Gerald Eze, the Chairman of Nsukka branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, said the president had the constitutional power to suspend or remove any public officer found wanting in his job.
“The president has the right to remove any public officer involved in any form of illegality.
“It is the presidency that appoints the CBN governor, so it has every right to fire him whenever the need arises.
“Sanusi has also the right to challenge his suspension or removal in court if he feels he did not commit any crime,’’ he said.
Mr Desmond Mbah, a banker, said if the allegations of financial recklessness and misconduct leveled against the former governor were true, the president acted wisely in suspending him.
“Being the governor of the CBN does not place Sanusi above the law.
“Sanusi’s recent utterances and accusations against the government that appointed him showed that he was power drunk and had no respect for the office of the president,” he said.
A finance analyst, Mr Tochukwu Nwaike, said the governor’s suspension was long overdue because he saw himself as one who should not be challenged.
“I am aware that he made some reforms in the banking sector but that does not make him to be above the law.
“His predecessors also made their marks in a quiet manner without being controversial and confrontational,” he said.
Mrs Felicia Ani, a civil servant, said she saw nothing wrong with the suspension. Mr President gave reasons for his action.
“Though Sanusi has contributed his quota to the CBN, his recent comments sounded as if he was politically motivated.
“I am appealing to the president to make public the outcome of the investigations by the finance committee that investigated him. (NAN)
