In a statement in Enugu, yesterday, Akobundu said that the PDP rally in Owerri and the president’s visit “are enough signs to the Rochas Okorocha’s government that the game is over for him and that his ragtag APC government should leave the stage for a people oriented party.”
The PDP chieftain welcomed President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to Imo State for the rally, which he described as unprecedented.
He recalled that Imo State which until 2011 was a PDP State “enjoyed unfettered economic and social boom under the PDP” regretting ,however ,that under Okorocha/APC government, “Imo State has suffered from economic and social anemia, resulting in the State almost becoming insolvent.”
The S-East PDP leader, therefore, asked Imolites to pitch their tents with PDP having seen the two sides of a coin and have known the better side.
He maintained that the rigorous effort to reposition the PDP in the five states of the South East and Imo State in particular had resulted in the enormous successes the party recorded since 2011 despite some daunting challenges from the Okorocha led administration.
Col Akobundu commended the President for his sustained infrastructural development of the South East zone, citing the Enugu –Port Harcourt express way being reconstructed, the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu which was recently upgraded to an International Airport of high standard, the Enugu –Port Harcourt axis of Maduguri – Port Harcourt rail line now rehabilitated as well as the numerous electricity and water projects being sponsored by the Federal Government in the zone “as clear example that the Goodluck Jonathan administration is carrying the south east along in its infrastructural and economic development efforts.”
