A team from the Africa Football Confederation (CAF), led by Malian Amadou Diakhité, began inspection of facilities in Cameroon for possible hosting of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

This is after the authorities of the central African country officially submitted their bid to host the nation’s cup.

The delegation also has Egyptian Amr Fahmy, Chadian Adoum Djibrine and Nigeria’s Paul Bassey.

They will examine facilities presented by the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) to decide whether the country can host the continental extravaganza in 2019.

The team began its mission at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Omnisports Stadium in Yaoundé before heading to the pitches 1 and 2 at the Omnisport Stadium.

The three sites will be used as training fields for teams staying in the political capital.

The CAF team is also billed to visit five other football stadiums across the country, including the stadium of Nguémé Limbe, with capacity for 20,000 fans and the Kouekong Omnisport Stadium in Bafoussam (20,000 seats).

Others are the Roumdé Adjia omnisports stadium in Garoua (15,000 seats), the Paul Biya omnisports Stadium in Yaounde that can accommodate up to 60,000 people and the Bwang Bakokos Omnisports Stadium (50,000).

Only the first three of these stadiums are currently operational while the other two are under construction and are expected to be inaugurated by 2018.

In addition, the delegation will visit and appraise hotel, health, telecommunications, land and air transport facilities.

At the end of the visit, the delegation will report to the Executive Committee of CAF, which will determine whether Cameroon can host the 2019 AFCON. (PANA/NAN)
