Tenant arraigned for owing electricity bill, rent

Mararaba -  A civil servant, Patrick Yani, 45, on Wednesday appeared in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State for refusing to pay electricity bill and rent.

Joseph Yelwa, 50, his landlord, who lives in Kwuchikawo, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, dragged Yani to court for refusing to pay his 15 months electricity bill of N30,581.

Yelwa, through his counsel, Ms Joy Wolu, told court that the last time Yani paid his rent was on March 6.

She told the court that Yani moved out secretly, without informing her client.

The counsel said that Yani was also owing energy bill of 15 months.

She prayed the court to assist her client to recover his money.

The counsel, also prayed the court to order Yani to pay N25,000 legal fee.

Yani who had no counsel to defend him, accepted owing the energy bill but raised an objection on the two months house rent.

The Presiding Judge, Mr Habila Abundaga, ordered Yani to get legal representation.

Abundaga then adjourned the matter until June 18 for hearing.(NAN)
