Displaced Persons From Village Near Chibok, Source Of Worry – Schoolgirl’s Father

The father of one of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls has lamented that the continued influx of internally displaced persons (IDPs) into Chibok town from neighbouring communities that have been attacked by insurgents had become a major source of worry for them.

The distraught parent, Mr Lucky Chibok, told LEADERSHIP in a phone chat yesterday, that while they continued to look up for divine intervention in the issue of the rescue of their daughters from Boko Haram captivity, the continued attacks on nearby villages had been weakening their resolve to remain hopeful.

“These are really trying times for us as parents who have to battle with the agonies of having our daughters out there in the hands of insurgents and no one seems to be doing anything yet,” Chibok said.

“Our fears only got worse when we began to see our brothers and neighbours from villages not far away from us now running to Chibok to seek refuge, because gunmen had attacked their homes, killed their people and sent them packing.

“We cannot count the number of people that have entered into Chibok in the past weeks. They are coming from Kwarangilam, Kwada and Kautikari villages. When we see these people our hearts get broken the more and we begin to doubt if we would ever see our girls again,” Chibok lamented.

Since the abduction of over 200 final year female students of Government Secondary School, Chibok on April 14, the quiet town and neighbouring villages have suffered repeated attacks by the Boko Haram sect.
