Doctors yet to resume work in Kano

KANO– Members of the Nigerian Medical Association are yet to resume duties in Kano barely 24 hours it’s national body called off the 55 days industrial action that grinds the health sector to a standstill.

Vanguard checks in the commercial city revealed that a huge crowd of Out Patients that were seen in all the three tertiary health institutions Monday left home disappointed as there were no doctors on duty to attend to their medical needs.

At the Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital,  beds were still empty as no patients  were admitted, while the same scenario was well pronounced at Murtala Mohammed Hospital and Abdullahi Wase Hospital.

Similarly,  there were no presence of doctors at Dala Orthopedic Hospital,  while no members of the Nigerian Medical Association reported for duty at Sir Sanusi General Hospital.

Most of the stranded out patients that spoke with Vanguard expressed there disappointment over the turn of events and  appealed to the doctors to put an end to the industrial action on humanitarian ground.

An out patient who identified himself as Iro Rabiu told Vanguard that “it was the downtrodden that paid for the doctors dispute with Government, we hope we would witness the end of  this game” .

However,  the Accident and Emergency wards of each of the aforementioned hospitals were active and alive.

Commenting on the development,  President Nigerian Resident Doctors,   Dr Jibril Abdullahi  told Vanguard on phone that the situation would return to normal by Wednesday.

Dr Abdullahi stated that most of the doctors were not domiciled in the city they practiced, and need few days to return to their duty post.
