Governor Sullivan Chime’s main opponent in the 2011 gubernatorial
elections in Enugu State and a chieftain of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) Mr Valentine Nnadozie yesterday declared for the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) along with hundreds of his supporters
and members of his former party.
Nnadozie who contested the 2011 elections on the platform of the
defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) made the declaration during a
solidarity visit with his followers to Governor Chime at the
Government House of Enugu of Enugu State,
He said that the decision to join the PDP was influenced by the
remarkable achievements of the Party in Enugu State and also at the
Federal level.
Mr. Nnadozie told the Governor and the leaders of PDP in the State
that he was returning to the party “with over eighty percent” of the more than
three hundred thousand registered members of All Progressive Congress
(APC) in Enugu State.
He said, “We have come sir, to ask you and PDP to kindly
re-admit your “lost sheep” into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
family, having gone to the wilderness over these years.
“We have come to identify with you and the transformation agenda of
President Jonathan and the giant strides of your administration in
Enugu State. We have come to pledge our loyalty to you and the PDP”
Mr. Nnadozie who defected to the defunct ACN from the PDP to contest
the 2011 governorship election explained that his sojourn in the APC
deprived him of the platform to talk for his people as the party’s
ideologies negated his own political philosophy.
He described Governor Chime as a God sent leader adding , “ we have come
to work together with you and PDP to move our dear Enugu state forward
and to the next level”.
Receiving the returnees, Governor Chime thanked them for their
decision which he described as a right one, and advised them to go
back to their respective wards and register in the PDP in accordance
with the party constitution,
The Governor, said, “We are happy that you returned and we are also
happy about the reasons that influenced your decision to return. I can
assure you that nobody will be declined registration. Our umbrella is
big enough to accommodate all.
We do things like a family and we allow people to choose their
candidates. We do not impose candidates on anybody.”
The state Chief Executive said that good governance and wide
consultations with the people were the tools used by the PDP -led
administration in the state to nullify any effective opposition.
He assured them that the party “will not allow whatever that led to
your leaving the party to happen again”.
Governor Chime further disclosed that the returnees united will be
formally readmitted into the party during the scheduled mass rally of
the party in the state for President Goodluck Jonathan.
