The Nasarawa state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology,
Hon. Hussaini Ibrahim Abubakar has made a vow to sanction erring principals
and teachers who indulge in the act of collecting school fees from
students under the free education policy of the state government.
Hon. Hussaini made this known wednesday, while speaking to
Journalists in Lafia, said the free education policy has come to stay
and any teacher caught sabotaging the efforts of the government would
be brought to book.
“Apart from the N200 Parent Teachers Association(PTA) levy as well as
N50 for second and third term each, any other fees charged is illegal
and any teacher or principal caught collecting more than that would be
severely punished”, he said.
He added that, in situations where the PTA have a special project
they intend to execute, they are expected to communicate the ministry
in writing for approval of such projects.
On the issue of water scarcity in the Nasarawa State University
(NSUK), the commissioner said the water scarcity is affecting the
entire Keffi community and the state government has approved a huge
sum of money to address the issue.
He stated that, students who are mostly affected by the water scarcity
are those who live off campus as according to him; those staying
within the school premises are enjoying portable drinking water.
