Ex-militants threaten to vandalize oil installations in Delta

Ughelli—IRKED by what he described as the deliberate exclusion of members of his camp from documentation and integration into Phase Three of the amnesty programme, ex-militant leader, David Owhegbe, has issued a two- week ultimatum to the Special Adviser to the President on Amnesty, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, to correct the anomaly, failing which he will mobilise his men to attack oil installations in Delta State.

Addressing newsmen during a protest by members of his camp in Ughelli, Delta State, Owhegbe lamented that the time frame promised them “for our documentation and payment of stipend has long expired without any payment made to us.”

Meanwhile, in a letter addressed to Kingsley Kuku, the ex-militants noted: “Upon the proclamation of the amnesty programme by the Federal Government, our members with retinue of militants under their control, voluntarily surrendered all their control and management to the sector 1, Joint Task Force, JTF, at the Effurun Barracks, Delta State.

“At the ground where our members submitted their arms and ammunition, they were given assurances that they would be documented on or before two months to enable them benefit fully from the amnesty scheme. They were told that on or before mid 2011, they would be documented and would be receiving stipends for their up-keep just like other ex-militants. Up till date, nothing has been done for our members in that regard.”
