A ruthless murderer who abducted, sexually abused and
strangled 5-year-old girl to death will spend the rest of his miserable
life behind bars, Detroit, US.
Darnell Cheatham, 23, abducted and killed Mariha Smith in July 2011
A blood-curdling murder happened three years ago when Darnell
Cheatham kidnapped his girlfriend’s niece, raped and stragnled her to
death. In an attempt to cover up evidence he crushed Mariha Smith’s
skull and set her remains alight.
During the investigation it was found that the girl was abducted from
her mother’s house. Konisha Smith said at the time she couldn’t
remember anything about the disappearance of her daughter because she
was passed out drunk.
The burned body of Mariha was discovered in this abandoned Detroit house near to her home in July 2011
Later in court a grievieng mother said:
“My daughter is dead at
five years old.She couldn’t enjoy her life. She couldn’t see her little
brothers and sisters anymore. It hurt me so bad that I trusted him
around my kids and this is the way he did me.”
Cheatham charged with first-degree murder, arson and child abuse did
not confess to the crime and insists he is innocent. Nevertheless
the judge issued the life sentence.
