Nigerians Condemn President Jonathan Over Baga Killings

As media attention focused on the Paris terror attacks last week, more than 2000 Nigerians were reported to have been killed by Islamist militants Boko Haram. But what do Nigerians actually know about the crisis in Baga and how do they feel?

As media attention focused on the Paris terror attacks last week, more than 2000 Nigerians were reported to have been killed by Islamist militants Boko Haram. But what do Nigerians actually know about the crisis in Baga and how do they feel?

Initially, they condemned their incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, who reacts to the Baga massacre only several days after it. Then ask the world notignore their pain.

We don’t have a leader,” says one woman. “If we had a leader how can someone just wake up and start attacking their fellow human beings?”

The Nigerian military have said that 150 people died in the attack by Boko Haram, but Nigerian officials and Amnesty International indicate the casualty figure could be much higher. Satellite imagery of North East Nigeria shows the damage done to Baga town to be widespread.

American Hollywood star Angelina Jolie recently condemned Boko Haram attack on Baga.
South African politician Julius Malema, has attacked Nigeria’s President Jonathan over his handling of the Baga massacre, called him “irresponsible” and proposed South African interference against the Islamist Boko Haram militants.
