Alhaji Yusha’u Kebbe, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has reportedly defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

ThisDay reports that Kebbe made his intention known on Wednesday when he paid a courtesy visit to the former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa at his residence in Sokoto.

It was gathered that afterwards, Kebbe attended the PDP reconciliation meeting after which he spoke to newsmen, saying that there were many things he did not like in the APC.

The aspirant described the PDP as the only national party that could bring peace in the polity, adding that he decided to defect to the PDP along with his teeming supporters in order to ensure the party’s victory in the state.

“I pledge my total commitment to the PDP and I will do my best to support the party to ensure its victory in the state in the forthcoming election. I am in politics because of my people and not on selfish reasons. When certain people left the PDP and met us in the APC, I followed them to see how they will move. After some time, I observed that if we continued the way they were moving, we would be left behind,” Kebbe said.

He further alleged that numerous ongoing things were happening in APC that dampened his faith in the party.

“There are many things I feel do not sit well with me. I therefore felt that I should come back home, meet my people and move the state forward,” he said.

Reacting to the defection, the state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, commended Kebbe for his decision to join the ruling party which he described as a national party that was committed to meeting the yearnings and aspiration of Nigerians.

Milgoma promised to carry Kebbe and his supporters along in the scheme of things without any discrimination.

“The doors of the PDP are always open to all Nigerians who are willing to join the party for the progress of Sokoto and Nigeria in general,” Milgoma said.

The state chairman therefore urged the people of the state to continue to support the PDP in its quest to salvage the state.

It would be recalled that Kebbe lost at the APC governorship primary election held in Sokoto state. He reportedly scored 13 votes against the Speaker of House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, who pulled 3,466 votes in the poll.

However, Sen. Abdallah Wali, the state governorship candidate of the PDP, recently reacted to the alleged plan to sideline the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.

Meanwhile, more than 4,000 members of the PDP had earlier reportedly defected to the APC in Isa Local Government Area of the state.
