Council of Imams and Ulama, Kaduna State chapter, has called on Nigerians to stop castigating Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka over his expression on the February polls, saying instead, they should reflect on issues raised by the cleric.
Chairman of the council, Sheik Abubakar Baba Tuni and secretary, Yusuf Yakubu Arrigasiyyu, at a press briefing in Kaduna yesterday, said Mbaka, as a cleric, only expressed his concern on the state of the nation, “ an act which is also obligatory for Islamic leaders.”
“The Quran, Chapter 2:159 states thus: ‘Verily, those who concealed the clear proofs, evidence and the guidance which We have sent down after We have made it clear for the people in the Book, they are the ones cursed by Allah and cursed by the cursers. Democracy is not about corruption, killing of innocent souls, destruction of property, bad leadership, witch-hunting, poverty, unemployment and mismanagement of resources as visible today, but good governance. Religious leaders are in the best position to educate, enlighten and provide proper guidance on all aspects of life. Consequently, the Council salutes the courage exhibited by Rev’d Fr. Ejike Mbaka in speaking the minds of majority of Nigerians. The truth is acceptable even if it comes from a non Muslim,” they said.
The council called on religion leaders to have the fear of Allah and be bold enough to speak the truth.
