It is worth recalling that since the suspension of Sanusi from his position as the CBN governor, the relationship between him and Jonathan has been mired in controversy.
On January 21 Jonathan visited the Emir of Kano in his palace in a bid to get the traditional ruler’s support for his re-election bid.
Although Jonathan shunned the yesterday’s ceremony, the honourable guests at the occasion included the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate,General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.); former military head of state, General Yakubu Gowon; the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar; APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Tambuwal ; and Governors Rabiu Kwankwaso, Adams Oshiomhole, Ahmed Abdulfatah, Ibrahim Geidam, Abdullaziz Yari, Chibuike Amaechi, Ramalan Yero, Babangida Aliyu and Kashim Shetima.
Sanusi was traditionally decorated, given a sword, spear, knife, bow and arrow.
In his speech the new Emir expressed his determination to fulfill his obligations to God, Islam and the people of Kano.
