Alhaji Aminu Umar Sidi Yan’leman, a founding member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State, has defected from the party to the opposition, All Progressive Congress (APC).

Sidi, an associate of Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa state, who announced his defection yesterday, told newsmen in Kano that he was leaving the PDP because of lack of internal democracy, Daily Trust reports.

From today, I have renounced my membership of the PDP in view of the lack of internal democracy orchestrated by the leadership of the party in Jigawa State. As a result of my  leaving the PDP, I’m joining the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he stated.

Sidi, a member of the House of Representatives in the 90s under the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) disclosed that he was moving with hundreds of his supporters from across the Hadejia emirate area of the state.

According to him, the APC was more coordinated during the primaries in Jigawa State unlike the PDP, adding that that the development would negatively affect the fortunes of the PDP in Jigawa State in the forthcoming general elections.

He said: “I’m impressed with the way the APC leadership conducted their primaries in Jigawa State unlike the imposition of candidates that we saw in the PDP.  There was no where in Jigawa State that PDP conducted primary for any elective position.”
He explained that with his level of education and experience and above all, his loyalty to the party and Governor Lamido, he should be called upon to give his constituency a deserving representation in the National Assembly. Though he vied for the position, he was denied by the Jigawa PDP leadership.
He expressed displeasure that a member representing his constituency, Malam-Madori/Kaugama has been at the National Assembly for 16 years, but has never raised a motion, yet he was given automatic ticket to rerun.

He therefore called on all his supporters to vote PDP out of Jigawa government and all other elective posts including the presidency.

This is coming barely a week after the governor of Rivers state and the Director General of General Muhammadu Buhari campaign organization, Rotimi Amaechi had a closed door meeting with Lamido, the Jigawa State governor.

Its been a season of defection as politicians have been dumping their parties for other parties which they feel will benefit them more.
