The President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Worldwide, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, at the weekend in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital during a solidarity visit to the President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Udengs Eradiri, warned that the group would retaliate any attacks by the North on Igbo indigenes and their businesses before, during and after the general elections.
Isiguzoro called on the Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, who is also the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF) to persuade his colleagues to make sure there would be adequate security for the Ndigbos leaving in the Northern parts of the country.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth president further pointed out that despite the fact that the Igbo in the North were told by the group to remain calm, but reiterated that any attacks on them would be responded with coordinated reprisals in the East and South-South regions of the country.
Isiguzoro revealed that the call on NGF to make sure there is adequate security for Igbo indigenes was hinged on a security report they received, which alleged that some northerners were planning to unleash violence in a bid to take over the businesses and homes of the Ndigbo.
Meanwhile, the apex Igbo social cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo reportedly had internal issues with a pro-Muhammadu Buhari groupof Igbo people under the aegis of Igbos Diaspora Initiative for Buhari (IDIB) following the endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan by the former.
It would be recalled that a bomb explosion reportedly rockedthe national headquarters of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, located at No 7 Park Avenue, GRA, Enugu on Saturday, January 24, a development the country’s major opposition party the All Progressives Congress (APC) South East zone has reacted to.
