Omisore Confirms Authenticity Of Ekiti Tape

Osun state Peoples democratic party candidate for the 2014 gubernatorial elections, Iyiola Omisore has explained what went on during the time the Ekiti rigging tape was recorded, and unknowingly confirmed to the mass public the authenticity of the  tape.

He talked to Kayode Ogundamisi in this interview and answered question ranging from the opposition strategy, the tribunal and the election postponement.


Q:You still don’t believe that Aregbesola won the election.
Omisore: You know by electoral law, when there are conflicts in an election, you go to a tribunal and there are three stages of tribunal, the normal tribunal and the supreme court, so we are just on the second stage and i believe by God’s grace the truth will prevail at the end of the day.
Q: The 2015 elections has been postponed, are you also one of the Nigerians who believe that the postponement was necessary?
Omisore: From what i heard from the conversation INEC chairman, its obvious that INEC wasn’t ready, they said they require few days to get ready, if it was held it would have been less than 40% Nigerians who would not have participated in the elections and it would have been really bad for the Nigerian system.
Q; Were you aware of that controversial tape released by Sahara reporters in which your voice was heard, the one involving Senator Obanikoro, Governor Ayo Fayose, Where you at that meeting, was that your voice?
Omisore: There was no meeting actually, Governor Ayo Fayose went to the army camp to go and complain, about Nigerian army arresting his people alleging that then Governor Fayemi bribed the soldiers to arrest his people, that s just all, if you had listened to that tape, it’s a non issue.
The issue discussed is a non issue completely and in the same vein, yes they showed on TV yesterday the way Aregbesola rigged Osun election, hope you saw that one.
Q: Are you saying that meeting never took place or it was misinterpreted.
Omisore: what am saying is that listen to the tape, when you listen to it, you would know the content of the tape, the issue being conversed at the tape is Fayose’s complaining about soldiers arresting PDP or disarming policemen, Simple.
Q: In all fairness, i’d listened to the tape and you did not say much
Omisore interrupts: what did i say, i said calm down, calm down. that’s all.
Q: But it was worrying once, Senator Obanikoro was telling an army general that if he didn’t cooperate that his promotion lies in his hands, don’t you find that worrying?
Omisore: What happened was that, we were told that the Nigerian army were disarming the policemen, so in that case, we are supposed to work together as partners, how can you go and over ride your own partner, that why the discussion went towards that lane.
Q; but he was saying that as a Senator of the Nigerian republic, if you don’t cooperate with me, your promotion lies in my hands.
Omisore: Are you hearing what am saying, the issue in contention was the Nigerian army disarming the police, so he was just advising the army men that they must to cooperate with Government agency, we must all work together, Army policemen, Civil defence etc.
So its unnecessary noise from the APC who likes to make noise every time, look at the case of Aregbesola how he rigged the election, where you see APC cheating, these are issues needed to be discussed.
Q: The Aregbesola election rigging video, why didn’t you present that to the tribunal?
Omisore: It was conversed at the tribunal, it was conversed, but you know Nigerian law does not take electronic evidence to consideration, but it was conversed more than twice.
The people there video taped it live, They appear on video and on press conference what else does he want, so these are the facts you have to follow not noise making.
Q; You are a leading member of the PDP, would you agree that the PDP has failed in securing Nigerians from what is going on in the North East of the nation?
Omisore: I pity people, who ask these types of questions, Terrorism is a world-wide phenomenon, it shouldn’t be a campaign issue, i have told people and said in England on Sky news, it shouldn’t be a campaign issue, it’s a general problem we all face together, you cannot reward a terrorist with presidency, you must be educated, Terrorism is a worldwide phenomenon and must be fought by all parties in the land.
