Over 50 Dead As Boko Haram Strikes Adamawa Again!

Members of the radical Islamist group, Boko Haram have reportedly killed no fewer than 50 people in attacks carried out in some villages in Adamawa State. 

ThisDay correspondent reported that the attacks took place last week in Gaya, Fa’a and Dang villages in Hong Local area of the State.

According to a resident of one of the affected villages, 23 persons were killed in Gaya, 17 killed in Fa’a, and 10 killed in Dang, adding that the current casualties suffered by the insurgents in the hands of the Nigerian troops have made them transferred the anger to villages around Sambisa forest areas.
The resident, who did not want his name published further, disclosed that the insurgents attacked any village they came across while fleeing from the Nigerian troops, confirming that the troops were gaining upper hand on the terrorists following the combined efforts of Republics of Chad, Niger and Cameroon.

Meanwhile, a local vigilante member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the Boko Haram numbering up to 30 attacked Fa’a and Dang villages on Tuesday, killed 27 people, burnt houses and other properties before fleeing into the bush.

The vigilante member said the terrorists returned to Fa’a on Friday, and were caught in a gun battle with the vigilantes, confirming that one vigilante member, two civilians and two Boko Haram members died in the clash.

“They rode on 10 motorcycles on Tuesday and opened fire on residents, killing 17 men and a woman. I saw all the corpses in Fa’a. They also attacked Dang on the same day where they burnt houses and barns but there is no casualty because the villagers had fled. The insurgents mobilised again and launched fresh attack on Fa’a last Friday and killed 10 but luckily enough we were alerted in time, so we rushed to  the village and engaged them at the football pitch, killing two of them while we lost a member,” a vigilante leader said.‎

Also, Yusu Gaya, a resident of the area who spoke on Friday’s attack, said the armed insurgents came from the direction of Chibok town, Borno State.

He said they arrived the town at about 4.00pm on motorcycles and a Hilux van before they were repelled by the local vigilantes, adding that the military troops that were deployed to the area in the evening have since embarked on joint operation with the vigilantes in tracking down the insurgents.
Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said it is recording great results in its current battle to wipe out the insurgents, especially in Sambisa Forest and Gwoza in Borno state.
