WARRI—THE National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG, has warned that it “will be more disastrous to postpone the February 2015 polls,” than to go ahead with same, calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to redouble its efforts in the distribution of permanent voter cards, PVCs, especially in the coastal communities.

In a statement at the end of its meeting in Warri, Delta State, the Itsekiri graduates’ association condemned the call by the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), for the postponement of the poll and enjoined INEC, the Federal Government and other relevant agencies to ensure peaceful and non-violence polls by providing a level playing ground for all political parties.

National President of NAIG, Alero Tenumah, in a statement, said that INEC should make sure that the votes of the electorate count while politicians should guard their utterances in the build-up to the polls, so as “not to plunge the nation into violence.”

She thanked Chairman of Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, ILOT, Pa. J.O. Ayomike, Daniel Reyenieju of the House of Representatives, Project Coordinator of Niger Delta Environmental Restoration Project, Prince David Omaghomi, Dr. Alex Ideh and former Chairman of Warri South-West Local Government Area, David Tonwe among other distinguished Itsekiri sons and daughters for their contribution towards the achievements of NAIG in 2014 and advised politicians to make their campaigns issue based and jettison sentimental issues such as religion, ethnicity and regionalism.
