Twitter has shut down an account supposedly set up by Boko
Haram militants, which it had utilized to share photos of the training
of child soldiers.
The twitter handle @Alurwa_Alwuthqa was established on January 18 as an attempt to imitate the campaigns to recruit fighters like in such groups as al-Shabaab or Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
The account received 4,000 followers in several days and declared in Arabic the seizure of Monguno, a strategic town close to Maiduguri.
The photos of child soldiers, who were actively training by terrorists, were shared via this handle.
Intense rumours were circulating whether the account was authentic, since others set up previously have proved to be false.
Meanwhile, the suspension of the account by Twitter encouraged accusationÑ– that it was.
The American State Department also lent quality to the claims by tweeting a photo of the purported child soldiers, saying: “Amid its massacres of innocents, Boko Haram running training camps for child soldiers.”
The videos shares via this handle, if veritable, according to Telegraph, indicate a growing sophistication in Boko Haram’s promotion organization, which antecedently was limited to diffusing unstable clips showing the group’s leader Abubakabar Shekau flanked by arms-laden pick-up trucks and ranting in rudimentary Arabic.
