UPDATE: Boko Haram Attacks Chad, Kills 10

Members of the radical Islamist sect, Boko Haram has reportedly carried out an attack on Chadian soil.

This was made known by security sources who told BBC Africa that the attacks took place in the wee hour of the night.

It was reported also that this is the first attack the sect is executing in Chad since it started its uprising against the Nigerian government in 2009.

According to security officials, the extremist were believed to have crossed Lake Chad by motorboat and attacked a village on the shores of the lake.

Recall that Chad recently joined Nigeria, Niger, and Cameroon in a military coalition called multinational taskforce against the Boko Haram Islamist sect.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that the terrorists were repelled and pushed back by Chadian military troops after killing several people.
Reports reaching us from AFP reveal that the terrorist group killed five people in an early morning attack on Chadian village and military camp on the shores of Lake Chad.

AFP said a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed that the bloodthirsty sect left four civilians and one soldier dead before they were repelled and pushed back by Chadian troops.
But, contrary to AFP report, The UK Guardian reports that the Islamist extremist killed 10 people in today’s early morning attack on Ngouboua village on the shores of Lake Chad.

The UK Guardian quoted a resident of Ngouboua village as saying: “They came on board three canoes and succeeded in killing about 10 people before being pushed back by the army.”  

It was reportedly gathered from security source that no fewer than 30 Islamist fighters attacked the village in the early hours of the morning, setting houses ablaze.

The Boko Haram Jihadist is based in the northern part of Nigeria. It has carried out series of cross-border attacks in recent weeks in its campaign to establish an Islamic caliphate around the Lake Chad area which borders Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Nigeria.
