There was confusion in Delta State late on Monday as the camp of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Chief O’Tega Emerhor said that Chief Great Ogboru, the candidate of the Labour Party, had stepped down for the APC candidate.

An email from the Director, Media and Political Communication of Emerhor Campaign Organisation, Dr. Fred Oghenesivbe, said Ogboru made the decision in the overall interest of the Urhobo nation.

But the chairman of the Labour Party, Chief Tony Ezeagwu, denied the story saying Ogboru apart from campaigning at Bomadi Local Government Area on Monday, would also be in Asaba on Tuesday to woo voters.

Ezeagwu said the claim of Ogboru’s stepping down was not only mischievous, but a calculated attempt by the Emerhor camp to undermine the LP candidate’s prospect of winning the governorship election.

The email from Oghenesivbe said Ogboru stepped down after the intervention of some powerful Urhobo elders.

He said the Urhobo Progress Union had earlier set up a committee to persuade Ogboru to step down in the interest of the Urhobo nation in particular and Delta State in general.
