Relative peace returned to Ekiti State on Wednesday after two days of chaos over the impeachment notice served by the 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers on Governor Ayodele Fayose.
Commercial activities picked up again while workers returned to their duty posts in Ado Ekiti.
Banks in the state capital also reopened to customers, although many Automated Teller Machines were still without money.
But some loyalists of the governor were sighted lurking around the road leading to the Government House in Ado Ekiti.
Fully armed soldiers and policemen were also stationed on guard near the State House of Assembly.
The security men, comprising men and officers of Department of State Services and mobile policemen barricaded all the entrances leading to the Assembly with an Armoured Personnel Carrier.
Also on Wednesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission in the State began distribution of non-sensitive materials to all the 16 Local Government Areas ahead of Saturday’s poll.
State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Sam Olumekun, who supervised the distribution amid tight security, said the action had become necessary to guide against issues of late arrival of election materials at polling centres on the election day.
He assured all political parties taking part in the election of equal treatment before, during and after the exercise.
Meanwhile, Fayose in a special broadcast to the people of the State assured that Saturday’s State Assembly election would be held under peaceful atmosphere despite the crisis.
He called on the people to come out en masse to vote for candidates of their choice, even as he declared that the state remained a stronghold of Peoples Democratic Party.
The governor accused APC of deliberately igniting the on-going crisis in order to cause postponement of Saturday’s election, knowing fully well that the party would not win a single seat in any of the 26-Assembly seats.
He appealed to the people to go about their lawful duties without any fear of intimidation or harassment.
