Wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, has urged voters in the state to protect their votes by ensuring that the counting and collation process was done in their presence in the Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Ajimobi’s wife addressed a women rally of the All Progressives Congress in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Tuesday.

She said, “We encourage women to turn out en mass on Saturday, not only to vote, but they should sit down at their polling units and make sure their votes are counted in their presence. Also they should ensure that the votes get to the collation centres.

“Everyone wants our Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, to continue with his good works. My husband deserves a second term because Oyo State residents have enjoyed peace, security and safety and we just want this to continue. Women should come out again. It is their civic responsibility.”

The rally, which caused a mild traffic at the Oke Ado and Molete areas of Ibadan, attracted women and APC supporters from the 33 local government areas brandishing brooms to show their support.

Ajimobi’s wife, who warned against violence ahead of the polls, expressed concern over politicians using unemployed youths to perpetrate violence. She advised women not to release their children for such acts.

She said, “We have educated our women. We have told them that their children are their assets. We are not going to allow our children to be used by politicians for violence during elections. For us in APC, we have been able to control this, we have youths employed by the government. We are mobilising support for the re-election of my husband because we don’t want those that cannot be trusted to come in and make women suffer.”

The governor’s wife took turns to highlight the achievements of her husband, noting that women have enjoyed the dividends of democracy in the last four years and should support continuity in government.
