Xenophobia: NLC Stages Protest In Front Of South Africa Embassy (PHOTOS)

A handful of members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) today staged a peaceful protest  over the Xenophobic attacks in South Africa in front of the South African Embassy in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Led by the Vice President of the NLC and Secretary General of the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, Comrade Issa Aremu, the members held up banners with various inscriptions condemning the attacks on foreigners in the Jacob Zuma-led country.

They were received by one of the senior officials of the embassy who assured them of his country’s renewed efforts to combat the deadly attacks on non-citizens in South-Africa.

The embassy is however under heavy security as men of the Nigerian police force were seen around the vicinity. There have been unconfirmed rumours of possible retaliatory attacks on South African interests in Nigeria which prompted foremost South African telecommunications firm, MTN, to plead with Nigerians, urging them to  ignore inciting postings on social media platforms urging reprisal attacks on their installations in the country.

Meanwhile, South Africa has deployed soldiers to reinstate peace in the city of Johannesburg, and ultimately  stop the attacks on immigrants.
