An armed robbery suspect, Hillary Ugwuanyi from Ekoyi, Igbo-South Local Government Area of Enugu State has been lynched by an angry mob who pounced on him over a failed robbery attack on April 29.
The incident occurred at the robbery victim’s residence in Umuagama, Enugu-Ezike, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area where the suspect and his gang members now at large, went for operation.
Police spokesperson, Mr.Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the incident in a release to newsmen, adding that other fleeing members of the gang were being trailed by the operatives.
He said: “the gang members were armed with a locally made pistol. The wife made a distress call which attracted locals. They immediately chased the robbers and caught Hillary. He was allegedly said to have been beaten to a pulp.
“The suspect was however taken to General Hospital, Ogurute for medical attention where he was confirmed dead by the doctor.
“Recovered from the deceased was a locally made pistol with one expended cartridge. Manhunt on the fleeing ones have been intensified.”
Meanwhile, operatives of the Ogui Division of Enugu state command, through the assistance of members of the public, have nabbed two armed robbery suspects that stormed No. 3 Nwosu Terrace, Ogui, Enugu.
The incident occurred in April 30 as the suspects failed in their bid to dispossess residents and passers-by of money and valuables.
An eyewitness revealed that the police arrived promptly and arrested one Jackson Jinfah and Chidiebere David.
The suspects had sustained severe injuries from the irate mob even as police recovered from them, a taxi colour Golf car with registration No YF 321 ENU,an English-made Barreta pistol without magazine and one locally made double barrel pistol with one live cartridge.
Both suspects are receiving treatment to enable them assist operatives in their investigations.
