10 Years After Bellview Crash: What Community Is Still Suffering

Lisa community in Ifo local government area of Ogun state has accused past administrations in the country of neglecting them since the October 25,2005 plane crash incident that occurred in the area.

It would be recalled that a Bellview Airline crash landed in the area,which is majorly agrarian, 10 years ago, killing all passengers on board.

Lisa community is a settlement of Egba Kingdom and the current Baale, Chief Nojeem Odugnemi, 50, was installed officially by the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland,Oba Aremu Adedotun Gbadebo in 2005.

Speaking with newsmen, the Baale (Head) of the town, Chief Nojeemdeen Oladele Odugbemi commended the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo for assisting the community while in office, he said both Late President Umar Musa Yar’adua and President Goodluck Jonathan neglected the area during their own regime.

He disclosed that the incident has shot the community into the limelight, assuring that the state government, assuring that the tourist attraction of the area could help in boosting the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR of the state.

According to him: “when the incident happened, it shot Lisa into limelight. We had lots of people coming in and other people who were not even farmers,those who really wanted to come and reside here,churches and so many people were coming to the town after the incident in 2005.

 “It will be 10 years in October,that the unfortunte incident of the plane crash. Before then,Lisa was not known, after that time, God has been faithful to us, we have since become a very popular community within and outside the country.

  “We have to commend the former President,Baba Obasanjo, he is the source of the little development we are enjoying now. He showed concern to the community when he constructed  our roads, he built what we call arcade in memory of the victims. This is what we have been maintaining since then.

  “The road has become worst, now you cannot pass through the normal road if you are coming  from Ijoko to Lisa, you have to pass through Arugudu before you can get to Lisa,otherwise,you are already in problem.

“This is the first Aviation Tourist Centre in Nigeria, after this, I think the former Governor of Lagos state, Raji Fashola built another one in Lagos after two years of ours. But after the road became bad, nobody came back to us again, ” the community head disclosed.

Chief Odugbemi however called on the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun to come to their aid, hinted that hos efforts to get the attention of the past administration in the state were fruitless.

He advised that the state Ministry of Culture and Tourism should be maintaining the place,added that it could help in jacking up the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR in the state.

 “I have written so many letters to the past governors of Ogun state, because the arcade is now old. It is supposed to be maintained by the Ogun state Ministry of Culture and Tourism, we have sent several letters to the ministry in the past to do something on the arcade,they have made a lots of promises which has never being fulfilled.

 “We hope this time around, since our governor,Senator Ibikunle Amosun Fca, CON has promised us that Lisa is going to get necessary attention during his second term.

 “Let me tell you something, it is easy for government to make more money from here through this arcade which will make our community to be a contributor to the tourism attraction areas in the state and as well attract more funds into the coffers of the state, ” the high chief said.

The Bellview Airlines crash claimed 117 lives.
