Kano Governor Reacts To Sharia Court’s Death Sentence

The government of Kano State has showed its satisfaction to a recent ruling of the Upper Shari’a Court in Rijiyar Lemo of the State which sentenced nine persons for blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The government noted that the ruling was a clear indication to the fact that anyone who goes against the laws of the land will be punished.

It later acknowledged the perseverance and tranquility in which the people allowed the law to triumph regardless of unwarranted provocation.

The governor expressed satisfaction that the rule of law was allowed to triumph in the case of a recent judgment by an Upper Shari’a Court, Rijiyar Lemo, in the state, which passed death sentences on nine persons for blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed (SAW).

The government noted that the judgment is a clear pointer to the fact that whoever breaks the law of the land will not be spared.

It then appreciates the patience and the calmness with which the general public allowed the law to take its course despite the unwarranted provocation.

In a statement signed by the Director General, Media and Communications to the state governor, Baba Halilu Dantiye, it observed that accused persons were convicted under Sec­tion 110 and Section 382B of the Kano Shari’a Crimi­nal Procedure Law (2000).

The statement also appreciates the role played by the Ulama by calming frayed nerves and preaching for understanding during the whole saga and commended the court for the meticulous handling of the case and for disposing it in good time without subjecting it to unnecessary delays.

The statement further hopes that this will serve as deterrent to those who feel they can come and course a breach of the peace and further justifies government’s resolve to look into the existing law which provides for the regulation of preaching and preachers in the state through the State House of Assembly.

The statement as well acknowledged the role played by the Ulama for calming frayed nerves and urging for understanding during the entire incidence and praised the court for the careful handling of the case and for discharging it in good time without need for unnecessary delays.

Additionally, the statement believed that it will serve as a warning to people who feel they could come and cause a violation of the peace and it further justified the government’s will to look into extant law that provides for the regulation of preaching and preachers through the Kano State House of Assembly.

In a recent development, The publicity secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, has said that until the Northern elites accept that the children they call Almajiri were created by God and should not be used to foment trouble or create crisis, a million Almajiri schools in the north will not work.
