ENSG PARTNERS NDLEA TO FIGHT DRUG ABUSE

Enugu State Government has expressed readiness to partner Nigeria’s
Drug Law Enforcement Agency in battling all elements associated with
illicit drug trafficking for sustainable national development and
stability.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who spoke in Enugu on the occasion of the
grand finale of 2015 International day against drug and illicit
trafficking said drug abuse and illegal trafficking constituted a twin
evil that the human society must fight with much vigour.

The Governor noted that youths are at the centre of drug abuse in
their quest to get rich quick, and that such desire to achieve success
in a competitive world have given rise to menace.

Governor Ugwuanyi stressed that the interests of the youths should
always be given due consideration by government at all levels so that
the society would experience peace and economic growth,  adding that
the present administration would always consider the welfare of the
youths who are the leaders of tomorrow so that they would not turn out
to be objects of concern to the state in particular and the society at
large.

The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State
Government (SSG) Mr Gabriel Ajah described the theme of the occasion
“Let’s develop our lives, our communities, our identities without
drugs” as apt and timely in view of the overriding negative effects of
drug abuse in the life of any nation and its citizenry, saying that it
is a message to awaken in everyone the spirit of positive living,
whereby negative vices should be shun to ensure national development.
The State Chief Executive commended the NDLEA Executive for their
doggedness in combating drug abuse and drug trafficking in the country
against all odds.

In an input, the Commander NDLEA Enugu State Command Mr Ohanyere
Anthony noted that the week long programme of activities has come to
grand finale.
He added that the day has been set aside by the United Nation’s for
all countries to simultaneously sensitize their populace on the grim
consequences of drug abuse.

In an interview, the General Officer Commanding, Enugu State
represented by Brigadier Austin Ogbe noted that drug abuse and illicit
drug trafficking is an issue of concern to the society, and that no
government would achieve greatness without  dealing with such illegal
activities.

He enjoined other agencies to join hands together in the fight against
drug abuse, urging the youths to take their studies serious and to be
good ambassadors of Nigeria.

The event was attended by top government officials, nongovernmental
organizations, youths and people from all walks of life.
