LG councils Dissolved By Akwa Ibom Assembly

The Akwa Ibom house of Assembly speaker, Aniekan Uko revealed that the the states local government councils has been dissolved by the house.

He made this announcement in Uyo and informed the Chairmen to handover all government property to the councils’ Head of Service by July 10.

He revealed that the decision was in line with he 1999 Constitution as amended, as the tenure of the present local government chairmen would expire by 12 midnight on July 10.

Uko explained that the council was inaugurated on July 11, 2012 for a three-year tenure.

He informed the clerk of the house to inform the decision of the House to Gov. Udom Emmanuel for necessary action.

The house also allegedly received a Notice of Motion on the Establishment of a Nuclear Plant in Akwa Ibom, sponsored by Nse Essien (PDP- Onna).

In the motion, he asked the House to pass a resolution telling the National Atomic Energy Commission and indeed Federal Government to reconsider its desire to build nuclear plants in the state due to its dense population.

The motion also asked the FG to research for other cheaper options for Energy for the state.

The idea for the building of a nuclear plant in Akwa Ibom was made due to the necessity to fulfill the long-held promise for sustainable energy to the indigenes.
