There are strong indications that the leadership of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and the National Working Committee of the party may sanction some of its members over the ongoing crisis rocking the National Assembly.

Since the emergence of Senator Olusola Saraki as Senate president and Alhaji Yakubu Dogara as speaker of the House of Representatives against the party’s wish, the APC has been divided into factions.

Following concerns by many citizens that the leadership of the APC is yet to come to terms with Saraki and Dogara’s sudden emergence, the chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has said they are presently working to resolve the issue, Leadership reports.

Fielding questions from journalist in an interview at his country home in Benin, the Edo state capital, Oyegun said: “I think the reality is there; I don’t think there is any leader that doesn’t realise that Dogara and Senate President Saraki are a reality; but there is also no leader of the party who does not recognise that this was against the basic position of the party and that had created problems, issues of discipline, issues of the supremacy of the party and the rest of them. And that is what is engaging us at the moment, to hammer out a workable solution to the problem.”

According to him, the party was making efforts to address the issue of indiscipline and also create a comfortable environment for everyone within the party to be able to work in.

He added that the party is determined to ensure that its supremacy is respected by all.

Earlier, Oyegun had dismissed insinuations that President Muhammadu Buhari was slow. According to him the president is taking  deliberate steps to make Nigeria a better country.

In a bid to end the crisis rocking the APC caucus in the National Assembly, the governors on the platform of the ruling party have decided to hold a meeting with all senators and House of Representatives members in Abuja on Friday, July 25.
