The past Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has said he is not afraid of being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Amaechi, who was reacting to the allegations of corruption against him by the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, said his hands were clean and did not need to fear the anti-graft agency.

The state PDP claimed that it had petitioned the EFCC over how the former governor managed the affairs of the state in eight years.

The party had specifically expressed dissatisfaction with the sale of some state assets, alleging that the proceeds were nowhere to be found.

But the Ikwerre-born politician insisted on Friday that he was sincere and transparent in managing the affairs of the state for two terms, while he dismissed claims that he was hiding from the anti-corruption commission.

Amaechi, who spoke with newsmen through his former aide and ex-Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Tony Okocha, said, “He (Amaechi) is not afraid of the EFCC. He has tried for Rivers State.

“They (Rivers PDP) should come open with their facts and stop laying false and frivolous allegations against the former governor, because such antics will not work.”

The ex-governor maintained that his detractors were bent on maligning his person in order to make him politically irrelevant, adding that he was not bothered by allegations not backed by facts.

He said, “The records are there for everybody to see. The former governor worked hard and his legacies are also not hidden. All the allegations are nothing but mischief.

“We have all the figures. Those allegations are mere speculations. It is wrong for them (PDP) to think that they can concoct things and make people to believe them.

“They are looking for something and that is the fact that they want to paint Amaechi black in the eyes of everybody. Again, that will not work.”
