Mathew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic bishop of Sokoto diocese on Tuesday, October 20, urged Nigerians not to not put all their hopes in President Muhammadu Buhari, believing that he would solve all the nation’s problems.

The bishop while delivering a lecture at the 3rd Convocation Ceremony of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, titled “Education and Leadership Recruitment for a Plural Society: A Case for Nigeria”, said unless Buhari makes his anti-corruption war extensive enough to cover other acts of indiscipline, the desired changes in the country would not be achieved.

According to Premium Times, Kukah said the war against corruption should not be limited to finance alone but all acts of indiscipline of national life.

He also urged the nation to set the bar of leadership higher by setting standards for those that would rise to leadership positions as a veritable weapon to turn around the country’s political and educational systems.

The catholic bishop said the fight against corruption which was started by the president was a noble one that should be supported by all.
Kukah however argued that battling corruption alone may not guarantee Nigeria as a stable nation.

The bishop who is a member of the National Peace Committee, has advocated that ministers of President Muhammadu Buhari to declare their assets publicly as the president and his vice did.
Kukah stated this when he delivered his lecture titled, “Hysteria, euphoria and amnesia: Nigeria’s long walk to freedom,” at a yearly organized event called “The Platform”.
