2016 Budget: Read The Whooping Sum Of Money Ebonyi Gov Presented To Assembly

Premium Times reports that the governor, on Wednesday, December 9, presented a whooping sum of N101.1 billion for the 2016 fiscal year.

It was reported that the appropriation bill, titled: “Budget of Divine Actualisation” earmarked N62.3 billion for capital expenditure, representing 61.68 % of the budget expenditure, while N39 billion was reserved for recurrent expenditure, being 38 % of the total amount.

The 2016 budget is faintly above that of 2015, which was pegged at N96.52 billion, out of which the economic sector received the sum of N37 billion. According to the governor then, the money was expected to be spent on roads, water, electricity, agriculture, education, commerce and industries.

It was also reported that the Ministry of Works received the highest amount in the said budget within the economic sector, with N25 billion, representing 67.8 %; Ministry of Water Resources, N3billion; Commerce and Industry, N2billion; while other ministries shared N6.89 billion, being 18.7% of the budget for the sector.

The social sector reportedly received the sum of N10.3 billion, representing 16.5 % of the capital budget, with education given N6 billion, health N2.4 billion and others N1.95 billion.

The judiciary and capital city, Abakaliki and environs, got N1.117 billion and N0.203 billion respectively.

The governor in general stated that the 2015 budget is to speed up things unlike in the past administration which presented its appropriation bill to the House on December 30, 2014.

Governor Umahi further explained that the immediate past governor refused to show up to defend the appropriation bill before the Assembly until he (Mr. Umahi) was sworn in as governor on May 29.

He disclosed that the development propelled him to review the amount and presented same to the 5th House of Assembly on June 22.

Recently, The Union reported that a social cultural group of concerned indigenes of Ebonyi state were demanding that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Engineer Babachir David Lawal, should disclose how much of the state’s money their governor gave him as cash gift.

Also, the Ebonyi state government recently dismissed as baseless and misleading, the performance rating of Governor Umahi by  a  Lagos-based group, Centre for International Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS), which rated him among the lowly performed governors in October 2015.

Meanwhile, Daily Post reports that the Rivers state House of Assembly on Tuesday, December 8, passed into law Governor Nyesom Wike’s N104 billion 2015 supplementary budget for the state.
