Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, a former governor of Oyo state is set to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Alao-Akala confirmed on Tuesday, December 8, that he would soon be dumping the Labour Party (LP) for the ruling party, This Day reports.
His decision to defect was reached at a meeting he held at his Ibadan residence with his supporters on the platform of “Destiny Group.”
According to him, he decided to decamp because at the moment, APC was offering the best political platform.
The former governor stated that as soon as he has consulted with the leadership of the APC, he would make public a date for a formal declaration.
He called on his supporters to get ready to move to the ruling party with him.
Alao-Akala however said lawmakers elected on the platform of the LP should continue on that platform in the meantime.

Also speaking, Kola Balogun, the director of Alao-Akala campaign organization said the former governor’s decision was a response to the yearnings of supporters who have been wondering what their next step would be, considering their not-too-good experience with the LP and with the PDP.
He said: “We looked at the available options which are PDP, Labour, Accord and APC. We have considered the options on ground. Accord is not an option, Labour is not an option at all.
“For APC, we have never had any dealings with them. We have only been interacting with the APC and they are waiting for us to help strengthen the structure of the party. The APC know our worth politically, we also know their worth. We think if we come together, we can solidify the structure of the APC. APC will be mega party.”
Balogun said they reached a decision that all supporters of Alao-Akala will join APC.
On his part, Lukman Agboluaje, a member of Destiny group said as staunch supports of Alao-Akala, they have resolved that it was expedient for them to join the APC en masse.

His defection comes months after speculations and intense political maneuvering. Recall that he was a former council Chairman in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of the state under the All Peoples Party (APP) between 1999-2002. He later joined the Peoples Democratic Party where he was made the deputy-governor in 2003. He became governor following the impeachment of his boss, former governor, Rashidi Ladoja. In 2007, he was elected governor under the same PDP. Early this year, he left the PDP for the Labour Party to contest as governor again but lost to the incumbent Governor Abiola Ajimobi of the APC.
