Ayo Bakare, a former Nigeria basketball international has stated that his efforts during his tenure at coaching D’Tigers has finally paid off for present coach, Will Voigt, which brought about victory at the just concluded 2015 Afrobasketball Championship.

In a chat with SRSport.com, Bakare who was giving his insight and technical savvy on his “Tape the Rule” concept, recounts the strength and weakness of the opponents at the tourney.

He said: “There are a lot of elements that goes into the mentality of any team ahead of any international competitions. During my time, poor finance was one big factor because we don’t have enough post-camping funds, vis-a-vis other welfare packages. Even the players were not paid any or poor camp allowances. Another issue is that of injury worries to players like two or more players after their arrival in camp.

“In that situation, you can’t change then because the federation couldn’t afford the cost of new players. As worse as it was, we have to register such unfit players for the competitions then hoping that they will recover in the course of the tournament. Right now, only Ike Diogu was injured.”
