Mansur Muhammad Dan-Ali, the minister of defence, has assured soldiers of government’s determination to provide the needed logistics to North East to end insurgency in the country.
Premium Times reports that Dan-Ali gave the assurance on Friday, December 25, at a Christmas lunch in Damaturu organised for troops fighting with the Boko Haram sect.
Addressing the troops, the minister urged them to remain committed to the war against insurgency.
“While your welfare need is being addressed, I urge you to continue to adhere to all the rules of engagement in your operations.
“I want you all to note that your actions and inactions will be accounted for, you must therefore respect the rights of people in your host communities,” he said.

In his speech, Gabriel Olonisaki, the chief of defence staff, commended soldiers for their sacrifices and stressed that their contributions in the defeat of terrorism would not be forgotten. However, he called on the troops not to relent in their efforts to end the insurgency.
“We are gradually moving into 2016, therefore, we must not rest on our oars to win the war.
“As we move into 2016, I want to enjoin you to be more determined to reclaim all lost territories. That is the charge and demand on all of you as we enter the New Year.
“On our part we will do our best to ensure that all logistics and welfare required to prosecute the war to a logical conclusion were provided,” he said.

According to Tukur Buratai, the chief of army staff, the recent the visit of the defence minister would boost the troops’ morale. He also noted that the situation in North East has improved tremendously and attributed the feat to the sacrifices of the troops.
“The security situation has greatly improved and I want to congratulate the troops for a job well done.
“We are entering the New Year and I believe that we will start winding down to conclude the operation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abubakar Aliyu, the Yobe state deputy governor, confirmed that the security situation had improved in the state.
Earlier this week, President Muhammadu Buhari announced that his government technically won the war against the Boko Haram sect.
In a recent interview with BBC has said: “Boko Haram was effective on 16 local government areas before in the three states. Borno Yobe and Adamawa. Yobe and Adamawa are absolutely free and there are about three local governments were Boko Harams are there and I have told you they cannot marshal forces and attack towns or military installation as they did in Maiduguri before.”
