Senator Uche Ekwunife has said that she will defeat Chief Victor Umeh in the Anambra central senatorial district rerun election.
The senator representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was sacked by a court sitting in Enugu after an appeal was filed by Umeh who was a former chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). The court ordered a fresh election in 90 days.
The Sun report that Ekwunife said she was not disturbed by the court ruling but was prepared for the re-run. She boasted that she would defeat Umeh again just as she defeated him in the previous election.
She said: “I am not disturbed by the noise being made in government quarters concerning the outcome of the Appeal Court judgment, I am very optimistic that whenever the election is conducted, I will win. I beat Victor Umeh in the last election, but I want to tell you that in the rerun election, I will beat him again and beat him silly.”
In his reaction, Rommy Ezeonwuka who is a chieftain of APGA applauded the cancelation of the election.
He said the cancellation reflected the true nature of the way the election was carried out and that he had already predicted that the election would not stand.
He said: “The judges here have done a good job. This judgment is 100 percent correct because the election which INEC declared PDP candidate as winner was marred by fraud and gross irregularities that are clearly contradictory to the prescription of the electoral act. Personally, I am not surprised and I must say that the court has once more proven to be the agent of truth and last hope of the people.”
He said that APGA was ready to battle with PDP in the re-run election.

“In Anambra at this moment, people know that APGA is the only living party, other parties have lost ground because of the achievements of Governor Willie Obiano in the area of security, massive road construction and other things numerous to mention.”
