Some governorship candidates in the inconclusive gubernatorial election in Bayelsa state, under the aegis of United Governorship Candidates for Credible Elections have reportedly warned President Muhammadu Buhari over his aides.
The group comprising 11 governorship candidates from different parties, which participated in the poll, told the President to call his aides to order, Vanguard reports.
Speaking with journalists in Yenagoa, on Thursday, December 10, the candidates said the undue interference of Buhari’s aides in the election should be put an end to.
The political parties whose candidates were present at the parley include; Social Democratic Party (SDP); African Peoples Alliance (APA); Mega Progressives Peoples Party (MPPP); Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA); Peoples Democratic Congress (PDC); Citizens Popular Party (CPP); Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN); United Peoples Party (UPP); New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP); Democratic Peoples Party (DPP); and KOWA.
The candidates while speaking further on the outcome of the exercise in Southern Ijaw local government area of the state, the group claimed that some top politicians holding offices in the present administration, especially in the Federal Government were responsible for the manipulation that marred the election in Southern Ijaw in a bid to make their preferred candidate the winner.
The UPP gubernatorial candidate, William Berezi, who read the statement on behalf of the candidates, frowned at the wave of violence that accompanied Southern Ijaw council poll. He also called for the deployment of the deputy inspector general of police (DIG), Hashimu Argungun as well as the immediate transfer of Mr. Nasiru Oki, the state commissioner of police for their alleged involvement during the poll.
“In the spirit of fairness, as a factor of the appalling situation we saw in Southern Ijaw in particular, we hereby call on the military high command in Abuja to withdraw all soldiers deployed to provide security in that local government area.
“It can only be a fair comment if Mr. President tells the Minister of Defence and the Chief of Army Staff that what they are doing in Bayelsa state is wrong and should be condemned,” Berezi said.
