Members of Lagos State House of Assembly have urged the federal government to recover all stolen funds from corrupt past government officials and their cronies.
The lawmakers insisted that all indicted past public officers must be made to return in full their loots. They made this disclosure at a training programme orgainised by the Assembly at the Green Legacy Resort inside Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Ogun state, Vanguard reports.
Abiodun Tobun, representing Epe I stressed that if Nigerians had voted ex-president Goodluck Jonathan back to power things would have gone from bad to worst.
He said: “Whether the people involved in the massive corruption allegations are jailed or not, let us get the money back. You can jail them to serve as a deterrent to others, but the money must be collected.”Tobun advised the judiciary to give corruption related cases speedy hearing and if anyone is found guilty should not be let to go scot-free.
Also, another lawmaker, Bisi Yusuf on his part noted that when President Muhammadu Buhari shown interest to contest for president most people did not know that he will instill high moral standard in government adding that people can now observe it was God that put him in power there.
“We can see the revelations. Imagine if the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, got back to power, it would have been so bad and Nigeria would have totally broken down.
“The revelation of financial recklessness of the past government and the huge amount of money that is being discussed is criminal; the people involved should be prosecuted. The first thing is for us to take the money back from them and people should know how much has been collected and they must be prosecuted,” the lawmaker said.
